Default Banks Related Programming at Loncon 3 (2014 Worldcon, August 14th-18th)

Before he was ill Iain M Banks accepted an invitation to be a Guest of Honour (GoH) at the 2014 World Science Fiction convention. This is taking place at the ExCeL in London next month, and Banks remains one the guests being honoured, so there are quite a few programme items about him and his work.

Please be aware that the programme is still provisional, so things might come and go or change time and date. However, I thought it would be useful to note down the Banks related items (although some might have escaped my attention) so you have an idea of what just might expect. You can get day tickets if you don't want to do the whole thing.

Also see http://www.loncon3.org/day_by_day.php for a summary of other programming and events at the convention, and there is also a link there if you want to attend. There should be getting on for 1000 programme items over the course of the convention and 6000+ attendees.

There will also be a whole host of Banks related displays in the Exhbits Hall, so if you can only spare half a day in London it is probably still worth getting a Hall pass. See http://www.loncon3.org/memberships/#hall

Deep, not sure how the sign up to the Whisky tasting will work, but will try and find out.

Having a close look through the programme now

Can't believe the Stage production of Anubis Gates (that I really want to see) clashes with:
    Gary Lloyd
    Special Circumstances games
    Bridging the Gap
    AND the Whisky Tasting

Who planned that, were they just doing it to annoy me ?

It was a great con... could not get to all I wanted as there was so much on. I gather tickets for the whisky tasting went very early (as apparently is the case for this type of thing... fans like to drink, who knew?) But I caught the music lecture which was interesting (despite banging and crashing in the background whilst tech put up a projection screen) and the Iain Banks Writer and Pro panel which had some great anecdotes from people who had worked with him. Ken McLeod spoke about Iain and accepted his gift at the closing ceremony and was very emotional. Felt pretty emotional myself when I read the visitors book from the Iain Banks exhibition item and all the comments people had left. Many a glass was lifted to Iain over the weekend, by myself and I'm sure many others. Such a great great pity he could be there because I'm sure he would have loved it.
