Unhappy Cancer info , remedies , alternative treatments.

Saddened by the terrible news of Ian's cancer, I can't help but try to do something.

I don't really expect TMH to come and read this post. He, after all, is going through a terrible ordeal, and probably has much better things to do than reading posts from the internet.

That said, this thread is just some sort of "ocupational therapy" for myself... not that I can do much else.

So forum users and administrators please bear with me. This is my way of dealing with the heartbreaking news.

    Default Medical Biomagnetism

I am posting this , regretably full of qualms.
The only evidence I can provide that biomagnetism works at all is anecdotical and not scientific at all.

About a year ago I had a rash in my left hand. It looked like some allergic reaction. I decided it was a good time to give biomagnetism a try. So I went with the practitioner and told him about my problem.

He put some magnets on me and left me there with the magnets some 20 minutes.
The rash was gone in three days.

    My qualms:
The rash could have disapeared by its own ... probably.
I didn't double check with a doctor to have an allopathic diagnosis (loosy experiment).
It could just have been a placebo effect (knowing I was receiving some treatment vs letting the rash go unattended ).
This is pseudo-science ( although the same may be said about some herbal remedies that actually work ).
Finally , it was just a rash , not cancer.

    Default essiac

I've never met Iain but have really enjoyed his books and I'm very sorry to hear the bad news.
I was a pupil of Ray Redman and friends with the the Maclennans and mutual friends with Gary in Chester.

I've heard good things about hemp oil for cancer and watched a documentary about 'essiac' and think there could be something to it. Worth having a look at if conventional medicine can't do anything.

The thing with alternative medicine. What really sets ut apart.
Is that when it's been proven to be effective (not just bs), it's called 'medicine'

Allthough sometimes the remedy is worse than the sickness like it happens with chemotherapy quite often.

If the therapy is worse than the disease then it won't be licensed by NICE.
To bring you up to speed Adelatorre - I'm a structural engineer, but my wife's a Dr & a medical research scientist. She's worked in various fields, including Oncology (cancer) & more recently Motor Neurone Disease (which my brother is suffering with).
So believe me when I say. If there was something, anything, that could help, that made a real difference, it would be jumped on like a shot.

That's the problem with 'alternative madicine'. It only actually helps the person selling it.

The book 'Bad Pharma' is currently on my reading pile http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Pharma

"for several of the most important and enduring problems in medicine, we have no idea what the best treatment is, because it's not in anyone's financial interest to conduct any trials at all."

I've got a feeling it will probably confirm what I have suspected, that drug companies don't give a damn about peoples health and mislead doctors and patients.

    Champy ,
If your wife works in Oncology . Then do please do the nice thing and tell her to be post whatever resources may be usefull for TMH or leave him a snail-letter since you are local. That said I am in NO mood to discuss the pros and cons of traditional medicine ... it is not the intent of the thread ... if you want to discuss such things just send me a private message.
If you have something to contribute for the well being / painless passage of IMB then be a nice culture-citizen wannabe and post it ... I don't care about the means , just about the goal : giving IMB a good life quality for the months he may remain with us ( given ths slim chance that he reads it ) .
