I'm sticking with Excession. I like UoW a lot. But to me the scope and scale, the shear audacity, of Excession define why I read SF. It's the book that hooked me on Banks and really returned me to the SF fold after a decade + of mostly ignoring the genre.

I've read the books, this time, and all things considered PoG got my vote.

Very close runners up - CP, LtW, E, TA & FE

Excession has a special place for me, pretty much being the book that made me go into computer science and AI research. That being said, I still feel Use of Weapons has a slight edge, so that's what I voted for.

Sorry Champers, maybe you'd best not look in the hurt/heal thread then...

I too like TPoG a lot.

I think it's the Banks book I've read most times, but I just can't say why.
Also, I'm pretty sure I voted for UoW in the last poll.

And now this poll has revealed to me that "Transition", (which I still have to read) is apparently considered more of a sci-fi novel rather than mainstream. So damn you all, for spoiling that for me Stop that, or I'll tell you what soylent green is!
