South Africa was where District 9 was made (also the upcoming remake of The Prisoner has been filmed there too). A relatively constrained budget by American/UK standards go a long way in Second/Third World countries.

I thought Consider Phlebas and Player of games were optioned for movies yonks ago. Surely better choices for the big screen, albeit need the likes of Jackson to ensure the full epic treatment they deserve.

Jackson, Lucas and Spielberg all had to start somewhere.

Watched White Lightnin' last night (It's out on DVD), the first film directed by Dominic Murphy who is directing aGftC. It's a semi-true biopic about a hill-billy clog/tap dancer brought down by addictions to huffing gas, crank and being plain mental. To use the clichι it was even more weirder than it sounds.

From the evidence of this the guy has got plenty of visual style, and gets some great performances out of the actors (including Princes Leia!), if they can get a good script sorted and the right casting I have Hope.

Oh and one thing to add re White Lightin' it's violent and gruesome and sick as all hell...
