I spy Nemesis by Asimov lurking in there, haven't read that in years, is that the one where a colony is headed to a star in a slow ship, only to be superceded by the invention of fast-than-light travel?

Oh and I see a Jack Vance, always liked his stuff.

I get a new "Good Beer Guide" every 2 years. It's more for an update on pubs than for the beer itself.

Nemesis is still "to read", but looking at the description on the back it doesn't seem to be the story you mention. Nemesis is a fire ball heading for Earth, there is an Earth colony orbiting it. The colony is the Ark & Nemesis is the flood.

The only Vance book I have is Emphyrio. Great novel.

He doesn't look much like an SF writer in this picture (from Wiki.) does he?:
