Entered this address by mistake - a curious site / sight. Perhaps TMH is trying to tell himself something sub-consciously?

Har, on your wavelength.

Maybe he could be tempted to do some fan art.

Hmm, wouldn't that be mad. An artist called Iain Banks doing tribute art based on the books of Iain Banks.

Imagine if he changed his name to get more hits. Oh what an uncharitable thought!

(If you're lurking Mr artist guy, no offence I hope.)

I like the footnote "Website of Iain Banks (3D Artist) not Iain M Banks (Author)"

I wonder what other footnote he could have used.

'I'm Iain Banks, not THE Iain Banks'

Nah, doesn't work.

Iain Banks (never an "M")

It's holding page for a website for someone called "Iain Banks" who's an artist.
There is only a car there at the moment

The joke is that 'our' Iain Banks has given up all of his fast cars for a more eco-friendly lifestyle, so the pic of a sexy sports car as the holding page for IainBanks.com is ever so slightly ironic, don't you think?

I contacted the guy, he's just emailed saying he tried to register & say hello.

But reckons Admin doesn't like his name :(

Will contact Darren & see if he can sort it...

I should think not too, the uncivilised beast.

Now we don't know if we are talking about a cool guy who writes books or a car driving artist

He could send in a copy of his birth certificate, failing that there's always deed poll.

The Geordie version of the 'Dead Parrot Sketch'? :D

Here's his email to me:

Hi thanks for getting in touch and for your invitation. I registered a few days ago but i don't think the administrator liked a user having the username iainabanks, so i think my account's been deleted so i can't post.

A bit about me:(feel free to post it)

My name is in deed Iain Banks and i bought the domain name back in about 2003 to act as my online portfolio. I'm currently working on images to put on there so have just left a place holder image of a 'rendered' 3d car composited onto a photographic background.

I added the footnote because i got a few fan emails when i changed the look of the website, and has solved the confusion.

Don't worry i'm not some petrol head so there should be a range of images on there other than cars, including photography.

My only other Iain M Banks encounter was when i was interviewed for an online iain banks fanzine (http://banksoniain.netfirms.com/) because i was of the same name.

Ah, but from his point of view, he is TMH.

Welcome, by the way!

A tad self centred surely.

Welcome namesake, I suppose 'Iain Banks' is no longer a Googlewhack.

Nice one for finally getting through, good name choice by the way ;)

Have you ever read any Iain (M) Banks novels just out of curiosity?

Andi

Thanks Andi, it was going to be either that or Doppelgänger. I've only read The Wasp Factory so far as it was highly recommended and i thought it was very good. I think i might delve into one of his science fiction books next. Recommend any?
