Had to go to the docs last week as I had a bad fall on one of my explores. I've got a frozen shoulder which won't heal for about a year and it's really painful. Great start to the year.

Ooh ouch, jag. Is it an excuse to ask for lots of shoulder massages, or is it too painful for that?

I've just been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. Went to the doctor with a painful wrist, thinking I had RSI and ended up with a completely different diagnosis!

Waiting for some more tests to be carried out before the docs can decide what's wrong with me, but all the symptoms are indicating IBS. As it's a condition which isn't easily identified thay basically have to rule out everything else first.

Nasty - my wife was intermittently plagued with IBS for a couple of years. Different doctors would tell her different things, and all tests (coeliac screen etc) came back negative.

Finally 'cured' it by selectively cutting out foods from her diet, started with dairy, then bread etc; found that onions were causing it.

Now she rarely eats anything containing onions, and is back to normal.

jag
28-01-2009, 02:27 AM
I lost some weight by cutting out dairy products but the biggie was takeaway stuff. Man what a difference. And I know if I could stop drinking then I would be a very much slimmer jag.
I must admit to being 'binge healthy', and then 'binge bad'.
I never eat those fat-fighters meals, will only have brown bread, drink loads of water, exercise, don't smoke (;)) and am aware of what crap goes into the body.
Anyway I can't remember what I was going on about now........

edash
28-01-2009, 10:07 PM
I've lost nearly two stone doing nothing, just one of the symptoms which prompted the intial visit to the doc. I haven't gone down the selective omission of foods road yet, mainly because nothing's been confirmed. Diet isn't usually an issue with IBS (although is a cause in some cases) but it's certainly something I'll look into if required.

since you asked....my mood has been way down recently( a long term problem for me, but the medication works pretty well) The real bugger at the moment is the hellish anxiety symptoms, which although associated with depression have never really been a problem for me before. Propanalol(a beta blocker) helps a bit, way better than Valium which is just TOO SCARY

Chiaroscuro
24-02-2009, 07:42 PM
Sorry to hear about your anxiety symptoms, scoot. My Mum recently went through appoximately a year of having repeated attacks almost on a monthly basis and I know how hard it is to live with. She's been taking propanalol too and it's certainly helped her though it took a few months to really start to work. It does seem to be something that gradually resolves itself and I hope it does for you soon. Is there anything that triggers the symptoms for you? I know what I think started my Mum's off but after the first couple it just seemed to happen for no obvious reason.

Oh yes, when I breathe I feel much better:rolleyes:

Right there's this realy cool breathing exercise that gives a short period of "high" whilst relieving you on anxiety and depression:

Sit on the floor in a relaxing way (maybe in a meditation pose, whatever you find relaxing) and breath realy heavily for 20-30 seconds
when you have done this put your thumb in your mouth and blow on it as hard as you can, ignoring the fact that you can't

Doing this brings a euphoric sensation and you will stay in this "high" for a short period of time.
to lengthen the sensation breath heavily for longer than 30 seconds, but make sure you don't hyperventilate

I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like...

Glad you got the joke, jag, I can always depend on you to be on the right wavelength!

It's got a basket, a bell that rings and things to make it look good.

Tuned into your station RK.

Also ailing from lack of sleep. Nephew stayed for a couple of days, insisted on waking everyone up at 6.30 am. Normally not too much of a problem but combined with late nights, even my kids are shattered

Supposedly jumping my horse tonight, may end up riding like Lee Marvin in Cat Ballou

So, it was my sons birthday, so he had a day where we did what he wanted.
For some reason, he decided on going to a golf driving range... now, I don't like golf and have never played (unless putting and crazy golf counts).
BUT- the driving range was great fun!
Problems began the next morning- and continue today- as I can barely move my fkking back!

Just think how much worse it would be if you'd had to walk round a course too

I had a guy cry off ill today for hayfever, he's been 'ill' for more than a month now this year for everything from a minor cold and toothache to hayfever.
One of my juniors was visiting the dentist in the city centre when this guy was off ill with a stomach bug and saw him out shopping.
hayfever.
He's fired as soon as he gets back in.

Hope he doesn't read this board!

He was back in today, and apparently doesn't read this board because he was surprised to find he doesn't work for me any more either.

To many spurious days off 'ill' being spotted out and about shopping, clubbing or pubbing.
In this economy there are others who deserve to keep their jobs.

curled up snug and warm under the duvet, content having saved the job of someone who actually gives enough of a crap about their own future to not take the mick.

it's also a very comfortable bed.

I've been of the booze for the last 4 days, well when I say of, I mean cutting back. No voddy, just having a couple of beers and the odd glass of white wine. Last night I had none!!

Bad case of sunburn as well. We sat at my folks in glorious 70f heat. I had factor 30 on but still the right side of my carcass has the 'fireside tartan' as they call it up here.

Sounds like your getting rubbered mate;).

Tried to play golf at the driving range today, but after whacking 20 balls my shoulder said, "please don't do this anymore".

Major neck ache this morning, mush have slept all twisted around :(

Phaze - just relax, she'll be ok. Else you'll make yourself ill too

BeckyH
27-06-2009, 06:21 PM
Phaze-does she live far away? Do you have a common contact who lives closer? A request for an update isn't out of order.
But if she gets serious migraines then 3-5 days of dim quiet would not be unusual as a requirement for recovery.
If you can say "hey-I like to know you're ok" without sounding like "every breath you take" you'll be fine.

It annoys me how many guys still sing that as a romantic.
"Hey I'm going to stalk you & possibly boil
your bunny, & that's not a euthamism".

Tried to practice a bit at the driving rangge, but my arm didn't like the idea.

This morning I'm recovering from a small hangover
