Today I couldn't decide which car to use. So, for the trip to Arbroath I used the Astra, then to go and collect Rosie from work I used the Corsa, and then to go in to the villlage for my doc appointment I used the Punto.
We are a 3 car family.

Are you buying them all from TMH?

As long as you only use one at a time though

Just got a new Mini Cooper D.
Got about 75mpg driving to Dun&Gal.
lots of clever tech turning the engine on and off at traffic lights etc.
Got a very good deal on it as well since all the car manufacturers are sweating right now.

Can't decide whether to buy a new personal firewall or not.

I've been using Zonealarm but yesterday had a screw up which took ages to root out.

My fault, finished a download Beloved had started and thought we had inadvertently bought the commercial version. I tried to remove it but it hung on through a system restore, I got it through task manager after a lot of restarts.

Should I chalk this one up to ineptitude and persevere with ZoneAlarm?

or

Should I bite the bullet and buy a better firewall?

I read an article by a guy called Sam Spade, he didn't rate software firewalls in general.

I used to use ZoneAlarm but apparently it conflicts with the Trend Micro Internet Security software I now use, which works very well indeed. Not had a problem in over a year.

Get a Mac and then don't worry about it.

I have ZoneAlarm ( pro version ) on my machines along with Avast! anti-virus as well as XP Defender. Not had a problem with any virus or such like for years.

Why don't Macs get Virus'

disrepdog

Because most of the viruses are targetted at Microsoft because Bill Gates was so ruthless when he built it up and pushed out/took over the competitors. Or at least that's what I was told on an IT course.

Mac would be vulnerable if the virus creators felt so inclined I think.

There has recently been two cases of a trojan horse being included in pirate copies of iWork and iLife software suites.
They rely on people being stupid enough to install the bad stuff along with their ill gotten good stuff (and they're easy enough to find within the install package and delete so that you don't install them, or to remove from your system if you accidentally have, not that I want to give the wrong impression that I use pirated software).

They weren't spread by a virus manipulating a security flaw, etc, because there aren't really any.
osX, Linux and BSD are written very differently to windows, closer scrutiny, attention and priorities, the systems 'think' in different ways. Operate differently.

Macs and Linux don't get virus because the virus writers have no easy way of getting unsecured unverified code running on the system.

Virus writers would love to get something going on Linux, it's the standard for server software.

Microsoft isn't targeted because they're evil and virus writers are vigilantes, microsoft is targeted because it's easy, and the virus writers can build up a great big botnet to spew spam, etc at us all.

Got rid of ZoneAlarm altogether, now using Microsoft's own firewall. The steam trolley boots up quicker and the windows security suite appears to be happy.

My [free when you sign up] security suite (McAfee) is about to expire and I'm toying with not bothering to replace it & just go with the MS stuff. The firewall isn't much of a problem (as I'm behind a router, as with most peeps these days) but I'm not so sure if their virus checker (Defender) is up to much. Anyone got any comments?

As I've said, I run Defender and Avast along with ZoneAlarm, even though I have a router firewall. It works for me.

I use Avast and ZoneAlarm and it seems fine.

I used to use Norton until my Dad told me there was no need to pay the amount I was and to use Avast.

I couldn't decide which wine to drink tonight after being on lock up at work (11pm finish).
But eventually settled for a bottle of 'Banrock Station' mixed with a couple of DF118 painkillers. Sleeepytime.

I'm doing both!

I did tell her that I doubted I'd have time to get her anything- but she made it clear that this was, in fact, not an option...

Deep: that's the show with Megadeth and Testament? I'd fricking LOVE to go to that!

Just go to the bar during Megadeth. Not sure about Priest either. They'll probably play a load off Nostradamus, which sounds like Andrew Lloyd Webber doing a heavy metal musical. Testament should be good, their last album is great stuff, the strongest one they've done in oh so many years (probably helped by having Alex Skolnick back in the band).

"Awsome" it was.

Testament were ok, but the sound was terrible.
Megadeth were really good, played pleanty of old stuff
Priest were good too, but Halford can't sing Painkiller anymore
