I sent my dad "The Algebraist" for Father's Day this year, he's only read one other Banks book, here's a very short review of IMB to date:

"Also, thank you for The Algebraist. I've only read a few pages, but I'm starting to think Ian Banks is one sick puppy, between the "Chairmaker" in Use of Weapons and the Archimandrite in The Algebraist."

I think I'll send him "The Wasp Factory" for his birthday....
