Just noticed that THM is GOH at the next Novacon this coming November in Nottingham. Think I'll try and make it as it's only just down the road.

Not far for me either (Derby).

Will keep an eye on the line up for this, though that website doesn't seem to have been updated very much...

Give them time, probably be a flurry of activity in October :)

Progress Report 1 went out to members recently - see http://www.novacon.org.uk/prs.htm - and now Eastercon is out of the way then I expect more organisation will get done.

The Guest of Honour gets to choose the theme of the dinner on the Sunday night. When I asked Iain on Saturday what he would choose he said curry. I also asked about what would be in the chapbook and he joked about Vogon poetry, but then said that now that the first draft of Surface Detail was out of the way he would begin to think about it, mentioning he had some material from Transition that didn't make it into the novel but may work as a short story.

I have been to one Novacon a few years ago. They are very lightly programmed conventions, i.e. one stream, but lots of good chat in the bar.

Do they usually have many other guests, I only seem to be able to find stuff on past Guest of Honors & Special Guests for past years.

Curry sounds nice though :)

Briain Aldiss is listed as a special guest (as is Harry Harrison, but PR1 says Harry won't be there). PR1 also lists the membership at time of printing which includes other authors, but these are just other normal members of the convention. Novacon is also well attended by what you can call, for want of a better term, big name fans, and with a group of them having just announced a bid to bring the World Science Fiction Convention to London in 2014 then that will most likely be a subject for discussion at the bar if not on the programme.

A rough outline of the programme from Novacon 37 is at http://n37.novacon.org.uk/programme_main.htm to give you a flavour. I will be taking the Monday off work so I can fully participate in the beer tasting on the Sunday night. By the way the Banksoniain is eligible for the Nova awards.
