According to the BBC, prog stopped in 1977 when 'punk came out'. Therefore the third part of the programme which said it went up to 2007 was pretty redundant as there was no mention of IQ, Pallas, Porcupine Tree, Marillion et. al.
The second programme was a Timeshift which pretty much covered the same ground, with Charles Shaar Murray, John Peel etc., being disparaging about the entire genre.
Led Zep 'The early years'.

Became less popular / visible, yes sure. But never stopped.
Funnily enough I met a guy about 10 years back (now one of my best friends) who was really into Yes, Genesis, ELP etc.
When punk came out & he got married /family etc he thought it pretty much died out too. But I showed him :D
Now he's into loads of Prog again that started in the '80s, '90s & '00s

Snow Patrol now, their latest album on continuous shuffle-play.
Here's a thing.
Back in the old days my Band 'Hetero' played a gig in Drouthy Neebors as support to an up and coming band called (if I remember correctly) 'North Pole'. I was sharing a joint and talking to the guitarist who said they were changing their name soon to 'Snow Patrol'. Daft name thought I:o.
Anyway, we blew them of the small stage that night.

Yeah their on-stage presence isn't particularly active or vibrant. Nor is their music, really. Which is probably why I like them. :)
According to Wikipedia they were first named 'Shrug' and then 'Polar Bear' before they became Snow Patrol. 'North Pole' is close enough to 'Polar Bear'. ;)

I've not listened to much of them, only got City and Alien here as well, but it sounds like a band self-imploding, very aggressive and angry. I got the impression that Devin was retiring from the creation aspect of music, that he didn't want to be that figure on a stage anymore.
