Anyone watching the new episodes on Dave?

Not a bad start. I reckon it'll work better as the hour & half show on Mon eve.

Huh, nothing mind blowing and only mildly funny. Pretty comparable to Season Seven with the semi-serious tone, annoying Mary Sue, and lack of laughter track. The complete lack of continuity with the last two/three seasons could be explained away as this being the alternative reality version of the Red Dwarf (Season VIII is, IMHO, rather underrated). I liked the exterior CGI/model shots of the Big Red One though, and is that the Tyrell Corp. pyramid seen in London's future skyline?

I've caught some of it.
missed the first ten minutes of the first episode
Haven't watched the second.

Thought the quality of writing is... what I've come to expect post season 3.

Glad I didn't bother, then.

Ye kidding, right? I kinda have a soft spot for the Dispair Squid, Ace Rimmer, Nigel, Rimmer puppets, naughty nanonbots, and Rimmer wearing a gingham dress with unmatching army boots.

What was the show that did the idea ofgoing to meet the creators?

Didn't see the Bladerunner bit coming.

A real curate's egg, I found the middle episode the most consistantly witty (with the reference to X-Factor, Rimmer washing his hands, and the demented comic book guy), but most the rest of it was rather ho-hum, stilted, and unjustifiably self-satisfied, like Rimmer (especially with the conversation on the bus). Why did the Skutter have to be CGI, even though I admit the CGI is a notable imrpovement over the CGI available ten years ago, but I miss the amateurish yet endearing model effects. Overall I'd give it 2.5/5, a barely passable retread of "Back to Reality" (with the Elation Squid), and it was a mistake to show it in multiple parts.

At least CGI skutters were more controlable than the old ones.

Over all I liked the new Red Dwarf, I rather liked the story (though it wasn't especially original, it was still done in a decent way). The trouble was it just wasn't very funny. There were quite a few bits which seemed deliberatly written as straight action or drama or just something emotional, without any intention of having laughs there too.

I like the references to series 9 & 10. Maybe they'll make those & those will be funnier...

I've managed to miss every showing of it so far. Still, it's on Dave so will no doubt be repeated another 3 million times. Ah, I see it's on again tonight - now all I need to do is remember to record it.

Got to see all 3 on repeat - overall on par with the last couple of series - i.e not a patch on series 3, 4 & 5 or even the first 2 [sans Kryton] series. Pity they couldn't get Norman Lovett [Holly] or the real Kochanski [Clare Grogan] in there. Still it had its moments & I'm glad they did it.

I've found it better with a repeated watching

What ever's going to happen after Back to Earth the Red Dwarf is howling out for new writers and original ideas, I mean the much pilloried Seasons VII & VIII had good, original story concepts of their own, such as the AI who could predict death and the time travelling crew messing up the JFK Assassination.

Well there is still the mentioned series 9 & 10 to come ;)

As for new writers, I can't see Doug Naylor giving up creative control. Though I liked some of the stuff from Robert Llewellyn & Paul Alexander in series 7 (I think)

I would've liked Terry Farrell in the mix... Well she's been in it before (sort of).

I can accept him as overall producer, but he needs to take on new blood otherwise he'll go down with his ship. If he is this stubbon, then no wonder Rob Grant got fed up relatively quickly and left the best part of two decades ago.

Used some photo fade removal tools and then masked out the remaining digital noise with a sample/filter layer.
