it could be a very good new take on a classic series.

Do you mean Patrick McGoohan - the actor, as opposed to the character? (She asked getting all pedantic.)

Looks good, but why a Yank as Number 6?

That's amazing! Neither am I! I think numbers is the best bet for being PM's secret identity. After all, he isn't number 6.
Still not sure why they had to do a remake of this classic, instead of using the premise for the base of a whole new idea.
I'm just tired of seeing the same scripts recycled from TV to stage to screen to "novel" and so on. Worse when they just re-use the script in the same format.
I know there are only seven types of stories, but that's at the metaphorical level, not the literal, fer feck's sakes.

ooooh, if numbers number came from being a number (I am not a free man) then the population of that place...

There's nothing to say that the numbers have to be sequential. Actually, that would be much more of a mind-funk come to think of it.

Well the place I come from is a small isolated village in the hills, with little to no outside contact, and only a few people have every escaped from there...

Originally the smaller numbers denoted more importance.
There seem to be more high numbers in the remake suggesting a larger Village.

Anyone been catching this? As it's now being shown on real ITV, I've seen the 1st 3 episodes.
Different from the original, & not as good, but still decent. Different but with enough call backs & interesting new stuff to make it good.
I hope the "6" episodes pan out well...

I think this borderline dud mini-series would've worked better if Dominic Monaghan was Number Six to play off against Number Two (funny LotR injokes abound).

It strikes me as odd that there is less action than in the Original.
I don't know if there is a conclusion in ep 6. How were the US ratings? Any chance of more being made?

I doubt it, considering how the shite and mostly nonsensical the ending was (no matter how magnificent Ian McKellen and the Village setting is).

Seen up to ep 5 so far...
Didn't think too much of ep 4.
Still enjoying it over all though.

I watched the original last year on some channel. Actually watched the original original as well. What a great series that was. Patrick McGoohan as the Prisoner, unbeatable. I saw several eps of the new series and it was OK - nothing special though. I agree the scenery is spectacular but it just doesn't have the charm of Portmeirion. Nor the great quotes.
No.2: “Are you going to run?”
No.6: “Like blazes. First chance I get.”
No.2: “I meant -- run for office?”
Heh heh - Be seeing you...

Ohh yeah, the original was unbeatable. One of my favorite series of all time

This show just started up in Japan, saw the pilot (or episode 1, whatever) last night on cable. It looked alright, I don't remember the original very clearly (except for getting chased by giant white beach balls). I guess I'm going to have to stay away from this thread, hate spoilers....

Just as an aside this reminds me of my all time favourite Simpsons episode "The Computer Wore Menace Shoes ". That's the one where Homer takes home a computer (heh heh) sets up an internet blog as Mr X and ends up on another version of the village where he meets No2 (Patrick McGoohan). Great epsiode but not seen on TV for a long time - maybe it's the drugs.

Yeah loved that Simpsons episode too :)
Homer: I'm tired of being drugged and gassed. There's got
to be a way to escape.
Number 6: Psssst.
Homer: Huh?
Number 6: [shows Homer a raft hidden in foliage] I worked on
this for 33 years. It's made out of toilet paper
rolls, toothpicks, and plastic forks. And the sail
is made of scabs and dynamite. It's small and it's
smelly, but it should carry both of us to ...
[Homer punches him, jumps into boat and sails off]
Number 6: That's the third time that's happened!
snpp.com is great for finding Simpsons quotes
Ohh & Mercenary, yeah the giant white beach balls are in the new one too http://sproutlore.com/forum/images/smiles/thumb-up.gif

I don't know, I'm having a hard time getting into this one. We're only on episode 4, but it seems like the writers watched a little too much Lost. IIRC, the original was more straightforward, spies from all over who were too dangerous to allow to retire but too valuable to kill ended up in the Village. Was there all the memory loss, children running about, the outside world not existing?
I'll give it to the end of the season, but it's not growing on me yet.

Yes, maybe they're all dead.
Maybe they were all dead in the original.
Maybe we're all dead!

Probably shouldn't have read that, the last season of Lost doesn't start here til next month, and I'm trying to maintain my self imposed blackout.
